March 15, 2008
MANKATO, Minn. - Western Washington University freshman Sarah Porter (Hockinson) placed 15th in the women's 5,000 meters at the NCAA Division II National Indoor Championships on Saturday at Myers Fieldhouse on the campus of Minnesota State University. Porter completed the 25-lap event in 18:26.77. "She was running on pace for the first mile and then started falling back," said Western coach Pee Wee Halsell. "We were hoping for more, but it just wasn't clicking today." "She's a freshman, who is gaining experience and I'm excited about her future. I'm very proud of her." Porter qualified for nationals with a school-record time of 17:25.84. On Friday, Western's Christy Miller (Jr., Boise, ID/Bishop Kelly) tied for 12th in the women's pole vault, clearing 11-7 3/4. |
