Elder and Lunderman are double-event winners for Vikings at PLU Invite

TACOMA, Wash. - Two Western Washington University freshmen, Ben Elder (Lake Stevens) and Lindsay Lunderman (Tacoma/Franklin Pierce), were double-event winners at the Pacific Lutheran University Invitational Track and Field Meet on Saturday at the PLU campus track.

Elder won the men's shot put with a season-best mark of 41-10 and took the discus with a toss of 129-10. Lunderman placed first in both women's hurdle events, posting season-best times of 15.26 in the 100 meter barriers and 1:05.71 in the 400.

In all, the Vikings won nine events.

On the women's side, Western's Camille Clark (So., Bellingham) led a 1-2-3-4-5 sweep of the pole vault by clearing 10-0. Christy Miller (So., Boise, ID/Bishop Kelly) took the long jump with a leap of 16-3 3/4 and Erica Rance (Jr., Seattle/Renton) won the discus with a season-best mark of 129-2.

In the men's competition, the Vikings' Ben Wargo (Fr., Pullman) placed first in the 400 hurdles with a 57.20 clocking and Kevin Iverson (So., Mill Creek/Jackson) tied the long jump with a mark of 20-1.

Western's Peter Geist (Sr., Portland, OR/Grant) placed second in the men's high jump at 6-6. Other Viking runner-ups were Josh Beck (Sr., Kelso) in the men's 3000 steeplechase (10:09.27), Chelsea Sadler (So., Olympia/North Thurston) in the women's discus (116-5), Liz Howe (So., Bothell) in the women's javelin (118-9) and Miller in the women's pole vault (9-6 1/4).

The Vikings will send a contingent of athletes to the Stanford University Invitational on March 30-31 at Palo Alto, Calif.
