SHORELINE, Wash. - Freshman Michelle Howe (Lakewood) and junior Kevin Myhre (Edmonds/Meadowdale) were each double-event winners for Western Washington University at the Club Northwest Spring Break Open on Saturday at King's High School. Howe took both the women's 100-meter hurdles (15.29) and 100 (13.24). She also placed second in the 400 (1:08.14) and fourth in the 200 (27.80). Myhre placed first in both the men's 110 hurdles (16.29) and 400 hurdles (56.22). The Vikings had seven other event winners. They were Ryan Brown (Fr., Bellingham/Squalicum) in the men's pole vault (15-5), Eric Brill (Fr., Kent/Kentwood) in the men's 1,500 (4:09.77), Clara Cook (Jr., Wenatchee) in the women's high jump (5-3), Megan O'Connell (Fr., Sammamish/Skyline) in the women's 400 (59.48), Megan Paulsen (Fr., Bellevue/Bellevue Christian) in the women's long jump (15-11) Tim Satterwhite (Sr. Federal Way/Thomas Jefferson) in the men's triple jump (41-7 3/4), and Megan Zukowski (Fr., Maple Valley/Tahoma) in the women's 200 (26.28). "It was a very solid day overall," said Western coach Pee Wee Halsell, "especially considering they were tired from final exams this past week." Paulsen also was second in the women's triple jump (34-11 1/4), while Satterwhite was fourth in the men's long jump (19-2 3/4) and Zukowski fourth in the women's 400 (1:00.83). Other Western runner-up efforts were Joana Houplin (Fr., Olympia) in the women's 200 (26/.92), Jennifer Quick (Fr., Edmonds/Edmonds-Woodway) in the women's pole vault (10-0), Erica Rance (Sr., Seattle/Renton) in the women's discus (124-6), Phillip Villanueva (Fr., Spanaway/Bethel) in the men's 400 hurdles (58.46), Josh Winters (So., Bothell) in the men's pole vault (14-11) and Kenny York (Fr., Marysville/Marysville-Pilchuck) in the men's javelin (174-1). The Vikings' Alex Harrison (R-Fr., Edmonds/Edmonds-Woodway) placed third in both the men's shot put (38-2) and discus (113-1). Western takes a week off before competing in the University of Puget Sound Shotwell Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 5. |
