SEATTLE, Wash. - Western Washington University's Heidi Dimmitt (So., Wenatchee) improved her NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in winning the women's 400-meter hurdles at the 21st annual Seattle Pacific University Ken Foreman Invitational on Saturday at West Seattle Stadium. It was the last regular-season meet for the Vikings. Dimmitt was clocked in 1:02.01, bettering her personal best by .92 seconds. "She ran a great race," said Western coach Pee Wee Halsell. "She went out and looked smooth with no stuttering ... I like her chances (of going to nationals)." The Vikings' Sam Brancheau (Sr., Edmonds/Edmonds-Woodway) reached the provisional standard in the men's 800 as he placed third in 1:52.48. Finishing second for Western were Kim Bascom (Sr., Camano Island/Stanwood) in the women's triple jump (36-9 1/2), Anthony Tomsich (So., Fairbanks, AK/West Valley) in the men's 1,500 (3:54.35) and Tyler Thornbrue (Sr., Shelton) in the men's pole vault (15-5). Placing third for the Vikings, besides Brancheau, were Clara Cook (So., Wenatchee) in the women's high jump (5-2 1/4), Christy Miller (Boise, ID/Bishop Kelly) in the women's pole vault (10-11 3/4), Michael Dean (Fr., Tacoma/Stadium) in the men's 400 (49.07) and Logan Senrud (Sr., Bigfork,MT) in the men's 3,000 steeplechase (9:30.31). Western's Monika Gruszecki (Fr., Edmonds/Meadowdale) was fourth in the women's javelin (129-2) as were Bryan Lucke (Jr., Snohomish/Monroe) in the men's pole vault (14-11) and Keith Lemay (Jr., Blaine/Lynden Christian) in the men's 1,500 (3:54.74). The Vikings' Ashley McDougall (Fr., Sammamish/Redmond) had a personal best of 18:59.92 as she placed fifth in the women's 5,000. Ben Elder (Fr., Lake Stevens) was fifth in the men's shot put (42-0) and had a personal best of 146-0 to finish sixth in the discus. Erica Rance (Jr., Seattle/Renton) was sixth in the women's discus (127-5) as was Katie Taylor (Jr., Bellevue/Interlake) in the women's hammer (129-7). |
