Schedule/Results | Roster | News | Archives Two Vikings to compete at NCAA II Indoor Championships
March 4, 2008
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University will be sending two women -- pole vaulter Christy Miller (Jr., Boise, ID/Bishop Kelly) and 5,000-meter runner Sarah Porter (Fr., Hockinson) -- to the NCAA Division II National Indoor Championships on March 14-15 at Mankato, Minn. Miller was ninth in the final national ratings and Porter 14th. Miller will compete at 4:15 p.m. CT on Friday, and Porter at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday. Last Saturday, Miller cleared a national provisional qualifying and school record 12-4 1/2 at the Last Chance Meet. That bettered by 4-1/2 inches the previous Viking standard set four years ago. Porter's best 5,000 time this season of 17:25.84 is also a school record. She was a provisional qualifier in both that event and the mile, running a school-record 5:04.91 last week to break the old Western standard by nearly 31 seconds.
Both Miller and Porter placed second at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships. |
