Schedule/Results | Roster | News | Archives Viking men second, women fourth at Emerald City Open
Sept. 11, 2004 SEATTLE, Wash. - Laura Trevellyan (Jr., Vashon) placed fourth in the women's run and Keever Henry (R-Fr., Kelso) finished eighth in the men's race, pacing Western Washington University's cross country teams Saturday in the college division of the Emerald City Open at Lower Woodland Park. It was the season opener for the Vikings, who were second and fourth, respectively, in the men's and women's team standings. "We come into this meet every year tired (from preseason camp)," said Western coach Pee Wee Halsell. "After one week of training, we put them on a hard course and it hits some of them real hard. "But it shows us where we are. We had some nice surprises, and we're going to get better once we get everybody going." Seattle Pacific took the women's title with 29 points, followed by Western 53, Warner Pacific 60 and host Seattle U. 83. Seattle Pacific's Karen Dickerson was the individual winner, touring the 5-kilometer course in 18:16. Trevellyan, who earned All-America honors last season by placing 21st at the NCAA Division II National Championships, was clocked in 18:42. Freshman Sara Thon (Bellingham/Squalicum) finished 10th for the Vikings in 19:52. Seattle U. won the men's crown with 41 points, followed by Northwest 54, Seattle Pacific 59 and Western 61. Warner Pacific's Kalen Abbott was the individual champion, completing the 8-kilometer course in 27:02.
