BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University sophomore Anthony Tomsich has been named Great Northwest Athletic Conference co-Runner of the Week, following his winning performance last Saturday at the Emerald City Classic.

Tomsich, a native of Fairbanks, AK (West Valley High School graduate) was the lone runner to complete the 8K race in less than 27 minutes, posting a time of 26:51.71.

The Vikings had five top 10 placers in their season opener to finish with 17 points, easily outdistancing GNAC rivals Seattle Pacific (47) and Seattle U. (72).

Tomsich, who placed 19th at the 2005 GNAC Championships, shared the weekly honor with Central Washington junior Sam Scotchmer.

Western competes Saturday at the Sundodger Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington at Seattle's Lincoln Park.
