Oct. 27, 2004 BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University seniors Kristin Haas (Port Orchard/South Kitsap) and Beth Rosapepe (Port Orchard/South Kitsap) were repeat selections as Western Washington University placed five student-athletes on the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Academic All-Star team announced today. Rosapepe, who was named a Cross Country Coaches Association/NCAA Division II National Academic All-Star last year, is a linguistics major maintaining a 3.51 grade point average (4.0 scale). Haas is general studies major with a 3.34 GPA. Also named to the squad were Laura Trevellyan (Jr., Vashon), Stephanie Haydon (Sr., Port Orchard/North Kitsap) and Jake Haskins (Jr., Port Townsend). Trevellyan, who earned All-America honors in 2003 by placing 21st at nationals, is a interdisciplinary concepts major with a 3.32 GPA. She earned all-conference honors by placing third at the GNAC meet last week. Haydon is a Spanish-linguistics major with a 3.32 GPA, and Haskins is a physical education major with a 3.35 GPA. Western hosts the NCAA II West Regional Championships on Sat., Nov. 6 at Lake Padden Park. GREAT NORTHWEST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE Contact: Bob Guptill (509-535-5291/Fax 535-5293/e-mail - bguptill@gnacsports.com) Sixty-Eight Named To GNAC Cross Country Academic Team SPOKANE, Wash. - A total of 68 student-athletes - 26 men and 42 women - have been named to the 2004 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic cross country all-conference team. Heading up the women's academic squad are Lindy Mullen of Central Washington, Katelynn Blume of Saint Martin's and Kelly Fullerton of Seattle University, all with perfect 4.00 GPAs, in their respective field of studies. Fullerton's GPA was compiled in her post-graduate classes. Among the men the top academic all-star is Tim Keller of Northwest Nazarene. Keller, who is a math major, has compiled a near perfect 3.99 GPA during his academic career. Northwest Nazarene placed the most athletes on the academic team, earning 10 spots, including four men and six women. Seattle University placed nine on the all-star squads (two men and seven women), while Seattle Pacific (five men, three women) and Western Oregon (five men, three women) had eight each. A total of 26 athletes - eight men and 18 women - were repeaters from last year, including SPU's Paul Mach, who earned his fourth academic award. Named to the team for the third time were Sarah Hansen of Alaska Anchorage; Matt Schmitt and Mullen of Central Washington; Jessica Wiggins and Susan Young, both from Northwest Nazarene; Michael Hughes of Seattle; Spencer Walsh and Rachel Daniels, both from Western Oregon; and Beth Rosapepe and Kristin Haas, both of Western Washington.
