BELLINGHAM, Wash. -
Keith Lemay was named for the third straight year as Western Washington University placed five student-athletes on the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Academic All-Star Team.
Lemay, a senior from Lynden and a graduate of Lynden Christian High School, is a physical education major maintaining a 3.70 grade point average (4.0 scale).
Selected to the team for the second time was Amy Olson (Jr., Stanwood), who is a physical education major with a 3.36 GPA.
Rounding out Western's contingent were Danielle Slaughter (So., Spokane/Shadle Park), who is taking a pre-medicine program and has a 3.92 GPA; Valerie Matthews (So., Sammamish/Skyline), who is taking a pre-physical therapy program and has a 3.36 GPA; and Keely Kaligis (Sr., Mukilteo/Kamiak), who is a sociology major and has a 3.23 GPA.

Seventy-Six Named To GNAC Cross Country Academic Team
SPOKANE - A total of 76 student-athletes - 24 men and 52 women - have been named to the 2007 Great Northwest Athletic Conference cross country all-academic team.
Heading up the women's academic squad are Heather McIntyre of Alaska Anchorage, Kirsten Clarke of Central Washington, Ashley Puga of Northwest Nazarene and Krinda Carlson of Saint Martin's, all with perfect 4.00 GPAs. Among the men the top academic all-star is Vahur Teppan of Alaska Fairbanks, who also has a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Eight of the athletes - Kaley Strachan of Alaska Anchorage; Krynn Finstad of Alaska Fairbanks; Kevin Lambert of Northwest Nazarene; Kaleigh Bishop of Saint Martin's; Megan Wrightman, Kaitlin Rohde and Karin Rohde, all of Seattle Pacific, and Keith Lemay of Western Washington, were also honored for the third time. Twenty other athletes were repeat selections.
To be eligible for the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be in at least their second year of competition at their university.
