TURLOCK, Calif. - Sean Packer (Jr., Sumner/Auburn-Riverside) shot an even par 72, moving up eight spots to tie for sixth place in medalist play, as Western Washington University ended its regular season by finishing sixth at the 34th annual Cal State Stanislaus Men's Golf Invitational Tournament which concluded Tuesday at the Turlock Golf and Country Club.

Western, ranked No.25 in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll, shot a final-round 299 for a 54-hole total of 897. The Vikings were eighth following the first two rounds Monday.

Host Cal State Stanislaus, which led the 17-team field from start to finish, easily defended its team title by shooting a 6-over 294 final round for an 861 total. That was 22 strokes ahead of second-place Grand Canyon, which finished at 883 (297).

"I thought this was our best tournament of the spring by far in terms of being competitive," said Western coach Steve Card. "We've still got a little ways to go, but we're showing signs of improvement and I think we've re-established ourselves as one of the teams at regionals that will be competing for a spot at the national tournament."

Packer finished at 2-over 218 to lead the Vikings. Only two players bettered his 72 on Tuesday.

Bart Patitucci (Fr., Othello) tied for 29th at 226 (75), Julian Peters (R-Fr., Mukilteo/Kamiak) tied for 38th at 228 (73), Tommy Bullock (So., Mukilteo/Kamiak) tied for 44th at 229 (79) and Richard Choi (Fr., Abbotsford, B.C./MEI) tied for 54th at 231 (79).

Andy Moren from Cal State Stanislaus took medalist honors at 5-under par 211, shooting a final-round 72. He also won the title in 2005.

Western next competes in the NCAA Division II West Regional on May 7-9 at the Fox Hollow Golf Course in Denver, Colo.
