LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Sean Packer (Jr., Sumner/Auburn-Riverside) shot a 1-over 72 and Bart Patitucci (Fr., Othello) had a 2-over par 73 as Western Washington University posted its best round of the three days in finishing seventh at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf West Regional which ended Wednesday at the Fox Hollow Golf Course.

The Vikings shot 295 for a 54-hole total of 898.

It was the worst regional finish for Western since it placed ninth in 2001. The fifth-seeded Vikings were making their ninth straight regional appearance.

Cal State San Bernardino, which had the tourney's best round of 271 on Tuesday, took the title with a score of 843 (286), two strokes ahead of Grand Canyon (278) and Sonoma State (279), which tied for second at 845. Cal State Stanislaus, the top seed, placed fourth at 854 (276) with Chico State fifth (285=857) and UC San Diego sixth (288=867). Hawaii Hilo was eighth at 902 (297).

Packer and Julian Peters (R-Fr., Mukilteo/Kamiak) (75) led the Vikings, tying for 28th at 223. Peters shot a first-round 72 to pace the team. Patitucci tied for 33rd at 225.

Western's Tommy Bullock (So., Mukilteo/Kamiak) (75) tied for 38th at 227 and Sam Pauley (Sr., Everett/Kamiak/Everett CC) (80) was 44th at 245.

Taking medalist honors at 12-under par 201 was Sonoma State's Jarin Todd, who fired a final-round 6-under 65, the best of the tourney. That was three strokes better than runner-up Gene Webster from Cal State San Bernardino (69=204).
