Schedule/Results | Roster | News | Archives Western's Radke sets school record in women's hammer at SPU Invite
May 10, 2003
SEATTLE, Wash. - Kim Radke (Fr., East Wenatchee/Eastmont) set a school record in the women's hammer and Jessica Telleria (Fr., Boise, ID/Capital) won the women's discus as Western Washington University ended its regular season at the Seattle Pacific University/Ken Foreman Invitational Track and Field meet Saturday at Husky Stadium on the University of Washington campus. Radke, a transfer from University of Idaho, bettered the Vikings' record in the hammer by 4-1/2 feet as she placed 11th with a mark of 138-3. Telleria won the discus with a throw of 140-10, but fell short in her final attempt to meet the NCAA Division II provisional national qualifying standard of 143-0. She had thrown 142-9 last week at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships. Third-place finishers for Western included LeAnne Evans (So., Steilacoom) with a personal best of 4,260 points in the heptathlon, Stacey Hopkins (Jr., Sammamish/Eastlake) in the women's javelin (139-3), Scott Romney (So., Gig Harbor) in the men's pole vault (15-2 3/4) and the men's 4x100-meter relay (42.72) of Ed Kaeka (Fr., Spanaway/Spanaway Lake), Chris McClung (Jr., Vancouver/Skyline), Jacob Petz (Fr., Pullman) and Dustin Wilson (Fr., Silverdale/Central Kitsap). "It was a solid meet for us and a good way for the majority of the team to end their season," said Western coach Pee Wee Halsell. "Everybody had such a great effort last week at the conference championships, it was hard for them to come back." Lisa Pearl (So., Kenmore/Inglemoor) was fourth for the Vikings in the women's 3,000 (10:29.43) as was Jackie McCall (Fr., Spokane/Medical Lake) in the heptathlon (3,866). Both the time and point total were personal bests. Besides anchoring the men's 4x100 relay, Wilson placed fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.66) and sixth in the 200 (22.85). Petz was sixth in the men's 100 (11.09), as were Melissa Behrens (Jr., Redmond/Eastlake) in the women's 100 (12.84), Tom Farris (Jr., Bellevue/Issaquah) in the men's discus (140-3), Jeff Luckstead (Fr., Walla Walla) in the men's 110 hurdles (15.78), and Brian Sweeney (So., Seattle/Seattle Prep) in the men's 400 (50.02). Western's Kurt Hartmaier (Jr., Woodinville/Redmond) ran his first 3,000-meter steeplechase in three years and placed seventh (9:31.44), and Ashlee Vincent (So., Bellingham/Squalicum) in her final tune-up for nationals had a personal-best of 2:17.36 as she placed 10th in the women's 800. Vincent will run the 5,000 at nationals. |
