BELLINGHAM, Wash. - State champion sprinter Adam Neff, a recent graduate of White Salmon High School, has signed a national letter of intent to compete in track and field at Western Washington University, coach Pee Wee Halsell announced today.

Neff placed first in the 400 meters at the 2003 Class 2A state championship meet with a time of 49.42. He also placed third in the 100 (11.51) and fourth in the 200 (22.95). The 400-meter time was a personal best, and his top clockings in the 100 and 200 are 11.04 and 22.58, respectively.

"He's going to be a fine addition," said Halsell. "His time in the 400 would have been our best this past season. He should be able to do a number of events, including both relays."

As a junior, Neff placed fourth at state in the 400, second in the 4x400 relay and ninth in the 100. He was sixth in the 400 as a sophomore and got to state as a freshman, but did not place.

The 5-foot-10, 145-pound Neff also lettered three years in basketball, being a second-team Trico League all-star as a junior and senior, and playing on a squad that won the league title as a sophomore.

Neff was an academic all-league pick in both track and basketball.
