3rd Annual Western Washington University Great Western Shootout
December 18 & 19 -- Las Vegas, Nevada (Doolittle Community Center)

 Tournament Information

Las Vegas, Nevada - The two men's basketball games scheduled for Thursday's opening day of the third annual Great Western Shootout at Las Vegas have been cancelled, but the two women's contests will be played with a change of one tip-off time.

A rare winter storm swept through Southern Nevada Wednesday, dumping as much as six inches of snow, the most in nearly three decades, grounding flights at the airport, and forcing closure of major highways.

Two of the GWS men's participants, Cal State Stanislaus and Cal Poly Pomona, were unable to make it over for Thursday's games at the Doolittle Community Center.

Both the men's and women's teams from host Western Washington and Central Washington were able to reach Las Vegas. The men's teams from those two schools had both played at Dixie State in St. George, Utah, earlier in the week.

On Thursday, the Western women (6-2) meet Quincy IL (8-1) at 5 p.m., and the Central women (2-7) will play Dixie State (4-4) at 1 p.m. The Western-Quincy game was originally slated for 1 p.m., but Quincy still had to make a long drive after being stranded in Reno.

With the weather predicted to improve, Friday's games are expected to go on as scheduled. The women's contests have Central vs. Quincy at 11 a.m. and Western vs. Dixie State at 1 p.m. In men's action, Central (5-2), ranked No.12 nationally in NCAA Division II, meets Cal State Stanislaus (4-3) at 3 p.m., and Western (6-1) plays Cal Poly Pomona (3-2) at 5 p.m.
