Former Viking All-American dies in car accident

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Sheri Fritz, who was a two-time All-American in women's golf at Western Washington University in the mid-1990s, died in a car accident on April 19 in Kirkland.

Fritz, 29, was a 1997 graduate of Western and a 1992 graduate of Shorewood High School.

Fritz, who competed at Western as Sherri Lochner, earned honorable mention NAIA All-America honors as a junior and senior, placing 15th at the national tournament in 1996 and 13th in 1997. She led the Vikings to 10th place at nationals as a team in 1997.

A four-year letter winner at Western, she led Western in scoring average every year.

Fritz majored in exercise and sport science at Western. After graduation, she worked in physical therapy at the Edmonds Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center and was currently employed at Lake Vue Gardens in Edmonds.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Fritz; her parents Edward and Barbara Lockner, and her grandmother Ruth Graves.
