MONMOUTH, Ore. - Pitcher Katie Fleer struck out 11 and Trina Dorn drove in three runs as Western Oregon University weathered two 40-minute rain delays to defeat Western Washington University, 5-2, in the opener of a Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Saturday at the WOU Softball Field.

The Vikings dropped to 24-23 overall and 11-12 in league play. Western Oregon improved to 29-16 overall and is 17-6 in GNAC action. The Wolves need a win the nightcap to tie for the league title with Seattle University, which swept Saint Martin's earlier today.

Western Washington scored both of its runs in the second inning on a two-run double by Katie Barker (Jr., Auburn/Auburn-Riverside).

Dorn had three RBI singles as the Wolves scored three runs in the third, one in the fourth and one in the sixth. She finished 3-for-4 and scored one run.

Western Oregon had 12 hits in all, two each by Tyler Sutherland, who scored three runs, Kristin Maglasang and Jamie Becker.

The Vikings' Lisa Pendergrast (Sr., Burlington/Burlington-Edison) was 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Sarah McEnroe (So., Woodinville) (5-11) went the distance for Western Washington.

Fleer (17-5) scattered five hits and walked one for the Wolves.
