Parkerson named GNAC Academic all-conference

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University outfielder Morgan Parkerson has been named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Softball Academic all-conference team.

Parkerson, a junior from RAF Lakenheath, England, is a physical education major with a 3.33 (4.0 scale) grade point average.

Parkerson has played in 26 games this season, making nine starts. She is batting .211 (8-for-38) with two doubles and five runs batted in.

Thirty-One Named To GNAC Softball Academic Team

SPOKANE - A total of 31 student-athletes have been named to the 2008 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Softball Academic all-conference team.

Heading up the academic all-star team are Northwest Nazarene first baseman Astin Salisbury, who has a 3.94 GPA in religious studies and Spanish and Central Washington junior shortstop Liz Wallace, who has a 3.92 GPA in elementary education and is a member of the prestigious Douglas Honors College at CWU.

Eleven players are repeat selections from last year's team. Six players - Salisbury, Mallory Holtman of Central Washington, Amanda Phillips of Northwest Nazarene, Jane Purdy of Seattle University and Trina Dorn and Shanley Young of Western Oregon - were all named to the team for the third time.

Northwest Nazarene, Montana State Billings, Seattle University and Western Oregon each have six players on the academic team, while Central Washington placed five on the team.

All letter winners who are in at least their second year of competition and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 are eligible to be selected to the team.
