BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University volleyball libero Courtney Schneider has been named a second-team College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN The Magazine District 8 Academic All-Star.

Schneider, a community health major, is maintaining a 3.59 grade point average (4.0 scale). It is the second straight year that she has received the honor.

A senior from Snohomish, Schneider leads the nation in digs per game at 7.66, seeking to become the first person in NCAA Division II to do accomplish that twice. She was the national champion last year and placed fourth in 2005.

Schneider is sixth on the NCAA II career digs list with a four-year total of 2,472 and is on pace to shatter the national career record for digs per game at 6.94. She has had 20 or more digs 69 times during her career.

Earlier this week, Schneider was named a GNAC academic all-star for the third straight year.

Western, 19-4 overall and leading the GNAC with a 15-1 record, closes out its regular season this week, entertaining Western Oregon on Thursday (7 p.m.) and Saint Martin's on Saturday (7 p.m.).
